M9 – Museo del ‘900:

Nel tumulto

On the occasion of the exhibition “Rivoluzione Vedova” conceived and designed by Fondazione Emilio e Annabianca Vedova and co-produced with M9 – Museo del ‘900, Vitruvio Virtual Reality has conceived, created and curated “Nel tumultoa site-specific video installation and immersive projection area to celebrate the art of Emilio Vedova. The exhibition, curated by Gabriella Belli, can be visited until 26 November 2023 on the third floor of the M9 – Museo del ‘900 in Mestre (Venice-Italy).

The exhibition opens an unprecedented path that chooses contemporary art as a tool to explore and interpret the social, cultural, political and economic history of the 20th century, a choice that emphasises the central role of Emilio Vedova, whose work is an interpreter of and witness to a strong historical and civil link with the events that marked the 20th century, maintaining the
force of a constant topicality today.

The installation is intended to be a challenge to representation, a guide to the discovery of the sign and places that characterised the artist’s life. Through the analysis of his work and the theoretical corpus, the multidisciplinary team of Vitruvio Virtual Reality has brought its own tribute with a short filmin cinema format, lasting 3 minutes and 30 seconds, designed to be projected in a special immersive space composed of 4 opposing walls (total surface area 56 sq.m.) that will surround the visitor, placing him at the centre of the great Venetian artist’s imagination. An immersive room that promises an emotional experience in Vedova’s gestural and creative world.

The central theme of the installation is the relationship between the artist and the city, which Vedova has always considered a source of inspiration. Indeed, his work is closely linked to the lagoon context, its light, colours and architecture. The video explores the artist’s emotional state, the semantic shift between object and sign, the kinesthetic impulse and gesture that becomes an energetic action, almost a performance. The Vitruvio Virtual Reality installation thus completes the exhibition’s itinerary, which narrates with one hundred and thirty works the point of view of this great artist and intellectual, confronting us, through his works, with the “hot” chapters of our recent history, from the ruins of the Second World War to the events of international politics that shook the world in the 1960s and 1970s and well beyond, up to the threshold of the year 2000.

Immersed in “Nel tumulto”, the visitor, whose point of view also coincides with the pictorial plane, will see a narration developed on two converging levels, marked by moments of identification with the action-gesture in which layers of signs and painting are added together, and by contemplative moments in which the places and architecture of Venice that inspired Vedova’s works emerge.
